毘沙門天 (Bishamonten)

毘沙門天 (Bishamonten) = God of Success

In Japan, it is customary to call "Tamonten" when enshrining an image as the one of the four heavenly kings, and "Bishamonten" when enshrining it as a self-respect. The origin of the Bishamon faith in the common people is the Kurama temple in Heian period. As a god of fortune, Bishamonten has become as popular as Ebisu and Daikokuten throughout the Middle Ages. At the end of the Muromachi period, it was regarded as one of the "Seven Deities of Good Fortune" as a unique belief in Japan, and since the Edo period, it has been particularly revered as a match.
